World Council on Isotopes, 2016 China, Japan, Korea Meeting: The 2016 China-Japan-Korea (CJK) Meeting took place on January 21-22, in Seoul, Korea. Since it was first held in 2003 with a purpose of fostering communication and cooperation among the three countries, it has provided the opportunity for those countries to discuss and exchange on radiation technology and radioisotopes. The global radioisotope (RI) market has shown progressive growth, with expectations to reach 8 billion USD in 2017. Among the whole RI market, medical RIs account for about 80%. In particular, Mo-99, the mother of Tc-99m, covers more than 80% of all medical RIs.
Jeremy Li, IAEA: Radiopharmaceuticals are a key component of nuclear medicine, and are crucial to fighting cancer and several other medical conditions. Their use, however, requires extensive personnel training on patient safety and equipment handling. Thanks to a recent IAEA training course, radiopharmacists from across Africa have acquired new skills and knowledge in this area and have since shared what they learned with their co-workers back home.

Don Erb was Director of Isotope Production and Distribution at the U.S. Department of Energy and held many other positions in the Atomic Energy Commission and the DOE. He initiated the recommendation in the 2010 letter to the Science Advisor to the White House for the U.S. to take an active role in the domestic production of radioisotopes for nuclear medicine. The government claimed it was working on that, but without fast reactors, domestic isotope production has not progressed sufficiently. The government needs to change its policies toward fast reactors and spent fuel reprocessing. His recommendation however did lead to the efforts for global public education on this topic at Go Nuclear, Inc. and Environmentalists for Nuclear - USA. His pioneering efforts along with many other distinguished scientists and engineers led to the tremendous accomplishments in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.
